Childish and eye-rollingly insipid as it is, there's no way to interpret it so that the person saying it has good intentions toward us.
I know the words are silly, but the words aren't the things that are going to inform the actions of the person saying them; the sentiment behind them is. At the very least, every threat of hell is coming from a person who is currently being a dick.
I was going to post my own response, but this. This is about how I feel.
Plus throw in a dash of indignance at their obvious superiority complex and I'ma call it a day.
If I were to create self aware beings knowing fully what they would do in their lifetimes, I sure wouldn't create a HELL for the majority of them to live in infinitely! That's not Love, that's sadistic. Therefore a truly loving god does not exist!
Dead wrong. The actions of a finite being measured against an infinite one are infinitesimal and therefore merit infinitesimal punishment.
I say again: No exceptions. Punishment should be equal to the crime, not in excess of it. As soon as the punishment is greater than the crime, the punisher is in the wrong.
Quote:The sin is against an infinite being (God) unforgiven infinitely, therefore the punishment is infinite.
