Why did God create the universe?

Pretty simple question that I've never gotten an answer to while I was a Christian. For what reason did God create the universe? Did he have a reason? Did he need to create the universe?

People have been asking this since the beginning of time and they never get an answer because there is none. Theists can't answer this question and when they try, as has been pointed out, the results are usually poor. Especially if said person subscribes to the "God is perfect" belief, because a perfect being would have no reason to create anything period. But they usually just counter-argue "God is beyond our comprehension" which is basically just a big cop-out and a fancier way of saying, "God works in mysterious ways."

Then they wonder why people don't believe.

Why wouldn't a perfect being want to create, God wanted to create a universe and all it contained for His pleasure, does a perfect being not want to bring more pleasure to His life.
