Why is it then so impossible to believe that ignorant and superstitious people wouldn't start believing fanciful tales about Jesus rising from the grave?

To me it seems that once elivis' generation dies there will be few who will even think of him unless dying on the crapper comes up. Which is the problem Jesus would have faced if not for some profound event/evidence or need that cemented him into the culture.
