I think in the long run, demographics will favor the Democrats, so the democrats will likely control the senate (probably the house as well) more often then not. So removing the ability of the minority to obstruct the majority, democrats will be able to advance more court nominees than the republicans can.

Net win for the democrats and net loss for the republicans, although the overall effect will take decades to play out.
