Of course previous Democrats would roll in their graves; Before Nixon's Southern Strategy, many of them were the same kind of racist, poor-hating theocratic shitbags that today make up the Republican Party.
What we do clearly understand is the dangers of unchecked capitalism, an inadequate social safety net, a healthcare system available only to those with money or willing to suffer punishing debt, and a dominant military industrial complex. We have a party, today, which is obsessed with returning America to the Gilded Age and they don't even bother hiding it most of the time. They want a country in which everybody belongs to the One True Religion, in which women and minorities are second-class citizens, in which the American working class resembles the Bangladeshi working class, working for as little pay and benefits as possible in unsafe, unregulated environments, while the owners and shareholders rake in billions of dollars a year for basically doing nothing. Class warfare exists, and the poor are losing.
It's not as simple as "big government = always bad". Big government is bad only when it is run by people who don't care whether most of its citizens live or die, and in America, that party is the Republican Party.
So, go on and rub one out to Ayn Rand or whatever.
