It's a shame that nowadays the FPS genre is far less creative when it comes to single player. I remember the days of playing Star Wars battlefront, timesplitters 1 & 2 and even the Medal of Honor games at the time. The single player in these games was genuinely brilliant. I used to spend hours creating my own levels and playing against bots in timesplitters, it was so awesome that you could do that.
These days the big names like cod and battlefront just focus on rebranding their multiplayer, while their single players' are all just generic, soulless, linear shooting ranges.
