If they're so dirt poor then where are they getting the money to shovel into the coffers? The rich ain't going to get rich if they have to depend on the dirt poor.

Have you ever had to live from paycheck to paycheck? That is what the poor do, because all their money goes to being able to survive. Where does that money go? To the rich, of course, via bills and groceries. The poor do not have a good chance, unless they win the lottery, to pull themselves from the dredges where they are forced to remain.

The rich often also utilize the poor's muscle at cut rate wages all while railing against pensions, unions, minimum wage increases, paid vacations, insurances, any corporate tax hikes, etc., etc., etc...
