I think the difficulty is in merging the God one is taught to talk to in a Christian home with the one that is alleged to have created everything from nothing. Our minds seem elastic enough to give you an experience of an ever present 'god'. It is just the leap to grounding that in the bible or any creationist metaphysics which is totally gratuitous and unsupportable.
