Yes, about 98.5% of the Greek was totally correct, but 1% was erroneous (didn't belong in the Bible) and 0.5% were errors in the text. Also, it wasn't just based on the Greek, the translators were told to use certain existing English translations too (but not the Catholic version - the Douay–Rheims version of course). The Catholics were translating from the Vulgate - which became scripture at the Council of Trent in the 14th century., (suggesting that all other bibles [that weren't word for word the same] were false), therefore un-questionable.
hock:
The biggest difference between the Geneva and the AV of course is the study notes from the Geneva Bible were removed. But the text itself of the AV is something like 80% similar to the Geneva, it is abundantly clear that it was built off the back of it, just as the Geneva Bible was built on-top of the Tyndale Bible. So from a purest POV you could argue that the translators shouldn't have had to look at any other translation and work only from the Greek and Hebrew texts.

"That's disgusting. There were clean athletes out there that have had their whole careers ruined by people like Lance Armstrong who just bended thoughts to fit their circumstances. He didn't look up cheating because he wanted to stop, he wanted to justify what he was doing and to keep that continuing on." - Nicole Cooke
