I still find it rather interesting that you seem so confident in your ability to divine the thoughts of people you don't know: I'd submit to you that at least a few preachers just think that god wanted them to become rich through their preaching. Ineffable plan, and all that.
It wouldn't be any more of an interpretation of convenience than any other theist's.
Wrong anyone that becomes so wealthy that they spend money on things that are frivolous, then they haven't seen the truth God gives through scripture. A pastor that wealthy should have his/her heart checked through scripture.

Preachers have had to always pay taxes on their salaries. I know this for a fact.
