Even if the founding fathers did believe in a sky fairy that would love the nation, they worked damned hard to put in human based checks and balances in a system of government that is completely unlike a theocracy. If they "really" believed in a loving interacting god, they would have installed a christian Khomeini type to rule with christian sharia type courts. It is proven that they did not believe in "divine" interaction by the fact that they built the government they did. At most they only gave "lip service" to christianity as so many do today to avoid the hard questions put forth by a silly belief in gods.
