Jesus Christ saves by his life and victory over sin, not by his death...
Romans 5:10 "For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life."
His death makes peace with humanity by putting Satan in his place (reconciliation). Following Him (dying to our sin) and receiving life from Him to become a new creation is our salvation.
