There has been a small decrease in the death rate from cancer and many more people are living longer with it BUT, many of the gains are cancelled out by the fact that people are living longer and we are still dealing with the effects of rampant smoking, sun tanning, industrial exposure to chemicals, etc.
The general use of statin drugs coupled with lifestyle changes associated with the prescription of such drugs has led to a significant decrease in death from heart disease. All that means though is that bodies are living longer and having time to develop dementia and various cancers. For example, one of the most significant risks for developing prostate cancer is being older than 65. If someone has a heart attack at age 60 he would not have become a statistic for prostate cancer five years later.
It's a complex situation.
