An Example of American Hysteria
#25
RE: An Example of American Hysteria
At a forum site, where I was banned for life several times I had written this item about my work and family day:

Family day at the Nuke Plant

Why they have these stupid PR events I’ll never know. Apparently those who approve of these events don’t have to mend and care for those who attend. It never fails that there will always be some country bumpkin who will take his family and parade them around with pride to his fellow workmates. Meanwhile they are comparing his relatives to their favorite character in the movie “Deliverance.” After a while it sinks in- Hey! Dad really does look a little like Ned Beatty and you’d wished he’d stop walking around the house in his underwear, even if he does pay the mortgage.

The kids are the greatest. They love to do things and explore. During the cursed Beanie Baby craze, the little snot gobblers would drag those things wherever they went, including the Nuke Plant on family day. One such incident involved a young child tossing his Beanie baby into the air as he walked along. As fate would have it-the cursed item landed on top of an overhead light- the black hole of contamination attraction.

Upon retrieving the item- not a small feat in itself- it was determined that Mr. B. Baby should be dusted off and cleaned (decontaminated) before returning it to said child. As it turns out the fuzzy little critter didn’t want to come clean. To make matters worse, the young boy started crying for his Beanie Baby . Three technicians were assigned to the task of preserving and returning the little fuzzy duck to the rug rat.

The item was “almost” clean, but did not pass the DOE limits, but did pass DOT limits. It was suggested by someone with commercial experience to return the item as the levels would pass as “clean” at most commercial nuclear facilities and it would shut the brat up, besides it was some office type kid- not one of the crew.

Eventually the Beanie Baby was returned. Just don’t ask me any more questions.
