Regardless though, the practice of meditation as commonly practiced that religion does lead to me feeling better. Nothing wrong with feeling good. Its nice to clear your mind for a while when it runs non-stop at full speed every second of waking life. I don't see any harm in Buddhism.
Meditation isn't unique to Buddhism. Moreover, Buddhists, as with many things in common with other traditions, play turf wars by claiming that their version is special. I have no problem with meditation, and in fact, I meditate once a week with a group of Buddhists. It's their attitude, along with the pretentious religious garbage which irritates me. And, it matters whether you're talking Eastern or Western Buddhism. Western Buddhism is packaged with flowery crap to sell it to Westerners. It's a lot more regimented, egotistical, and political in the East. I have nothing against meditation, but meditation isn't in and of itself what Buddhism is.
