I find it kind of funny that LOTR is said to have codified the high fantasy genre, despite that high fantasy usualy has Harry Potter levels of magic. Magic can be powerful in LOTR, but few individuals can actually use it. You have to be a Maiar, or have a ring of power, or something like that.
