No, they don't cut the edges of the diamond flat. It's a classic Solitaire cut set with only tension in a setting with no slots, no grooves. It is exactly as it looks in the picture... a round brilliant diamond held in place by a reverse spring. That's why I love it -- it's so different!
I should add that I'm hard on diamonds, I've knocked that thing a hundred times... nothing happens. It's fine, looks like new. The alloyed metal is VERY strong -- and heavy.
I LOVE having no prongs -- my ring never catches on anything!!!
