I agree with you re the De Beers cartel and that the market is heavily controlled to make them "valuable." But you are wrong that diamonds don't have a natural color. The most valuable ones are blue and pink, and they also occur naturally in every other color of the rainbow. Least valuable are yellow. I've seen a green one that was breathtaking.
