Can you imagine how psychologically scarring this was for the girl, and the bullying that resulted?
There are also countless examples of extreme psychological manipulation and cruelty from other religions (Christianity from my experience).
I split religion into two main categories: Stupid and Harmful. The stupid entries just frustrate me. The harmful ones enrage me. Why is some of this stuff publicly known and nothing is done about it? Is there not a line between religious freedom and abuse? I guess I'm just venting at this point but it blows my fucking mind.
No child has a choice. Of course a parent's going to teach them how they think that the universe works. Everyone, from the WBC to atheists, "abuse" their kids. What you and I call freethinking they call brainwashing. What you and I call brainwashing they call freethinking. People who have a belief will raise their kids in that set belief, and to the opposing viewpoint that's child abuse.
In short, your premise shows a very shortsighted view on the whole issue.
With that mindset, no abusive parent would ever be brought to justice.

Because if religion is man-made, technically someone can just fuse their own religion. The only religions I view negatively are those that hold condemnation against those who don't follow them.
