The problem with the abortion debate is that there are so many extremists on both sides. A baby can be considered human before being born, but to say that it should have full rights starting at conception is inane. Is a thing consisting of a sperm stuck in an egg worth the same as the mother's freedom? I think abortion should be illegal after a certain period, (which should be determined by experts in this field) at which the unborn is developed enough to be considered human. I think the CCCP got it right: keep abortions legal & freely available for the first few months, then protect the unborn once it is developed enough to warrant such protection.
That said, I do think abortions should be government funded, so that women can abort unwanted pregnancies early on.
