About 10 years ago a parent argued with me that he didn't deserve it because he was only a user. Of his two kids, one was already an addict and the other became an addict within the next year or so.
If I heard people like him actually take accountability for their actions I wouldn't complain - but I don't, it's all "me me me" and " I was in the wrong crowd" and a bunch of other excuses.
It's hard not to try to justify yourself when you fuck up in public :/.
I return to pragmatism, and the reality that we've all messed up at different times and in different ways.
