The problem is that it was Sanders' campaign which hacked into Clinton's files not the other way around.
This is a bit like breaking into a house and trying to sue the cops for catching you.
In another thread I mentioned that the word "chutzpah" was better described than defined. I submit this is a perfect example of chutzpah.

It's not like there's never been a story where someone breaks into a house, gets hurt or trapped somewhere, and then sues the homeowner.

And most of those stories are bullshit.

It's true. The caveat is that if you deliberately set traps for burglars or trespassers you might very well be liable not only civly, but criminally. So no trip wires, pit traps, or land mines.

Well... You could easily get around that by putting up a disclaimer notice on your property.
You know, a written notice that states the rightful occupants of said premises are not liable for any damage (including but not limited to bodily damage) to any unauthorized person or entity who comes onto said property. And post it in a place where everyone is sure to see it.

Posting a sign that says you aren't liable won't save you from liability for setting traps any more than putting up a sign warning that you shoot shop lifters will.

Yes it will because you are saying enter at your own risk. By entering, you agree to hold the occupants free from harm should your own stupidity of entering cause you to get hurt.

A homeowner or occupant is free to arrange their belongings in any manner they wish, as it is their property. If they want to place traps and call them decorations, they are free to do so.

Sure you can do it. But you'll still be liable if someone kills themself. There are many limits to what you can do with your own property. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Katko_v._Briney

"Hacked" is a strong word. That's not what happened. The DNC has a system which candidates and their campaigns have access to, and the campaign is able to pull information out of that system based on the candidate; for instance the Sanders campaign can get a load of phone numbers of DNC members who support him, but they can't access the same information for Clinton supporters. The systems are separated by a firewall, which is supposed to keep each campaign from accessing the other campaigns data.
What happened was some IT guy upgraded the firewall, but it either went down or didn't get configured properly, meaning campaigns could access each other's data. A member of the Sanders campaign apparently did some queries and got Clinton's data. He's been fired, so it's not clear why the entire Sanders campaign is being punished, hence them suing.
Not even remotely close to hacking, this was a DNC issue, which the DNC have decided to blame on the Sanders campaign.
