I think I have a different idea of what bigotry is than your friend. However, I am only posting here because your post made me LMAO. I was called a bigot by a Christian just yesterday because I wrote an article about Catholic priests and pedophilia. The gist of the whole article was that parents should not leave their children alone with anyone just because they share the same belief system. I wouldn't leave a child alone with one of you atheists, just because we agree. There was no religious bashing in this article at all (unlike my pieces on homosexuality hehe). I never noticed it before, but I think this bigotry angle might be the new big thing with Christians.
