Tyson claims with some disdain in his voice and his facial expression, "there was hardly ever a prophecy attempted by the mystics that even strives for comparable precision". He is slamming mystics. If the show is only supposed to get people excited by science, why slam mystics?
Because part of being excited by science is showing how it is vastly superior to all other attempts at gaining knowledge.

It upsets me not because I don't want the show to be seen as having anti-religious undertones. It upsets me because of the hubris and ignorance that is displayed when religious people take offense from people pointing out that their dogma has never led to any verifiable knowledge.
Even if the open windows of science at first make us shiver after the cozy indoor warmth of traditional humanizing myths, in the end the fresh air brings vigor, and the great spaces have a splendor of their own - Bertrand Russell
