Can Science and religion co-exist?

Of course they can. This is a classical example of the double-think that escpecially the catholic church is so good at. When it suits the catholic church, completely unscientific religious doctrine is true. When a new scientific discovery allows the catholic church to grab more land, followers or riches, science is right -- regardless of wether it contradicts religious doctrine or not.
Sometimes the earth is the center of the solar system. Sometimes, the sun is the center of the solar system. It all depends on where the Catholic church needs it to be.
