The percentage of teachers that molest children is way higher than the percentage of priests. One percent of priests is guilty of molesting children, but it is so scandalous, and the Church is so huge and wealthy, that it gets a heckuva lot of media attention and money that can be made from lawsuits. When you have an organization as huge as the Catholic Church, if one out of a hundred is a pedophile, that turns into a very large quantity.
In the Diocese of Helena here there are priests that are dead and the Diocese is getting sued for the alleged sexual impropriety that these dead priests are guilty of quite a few decades ago.
