If the companies can't pay their employees enough to live, working full time, they shouldn't be in buisiness.
The economic hit a lot of rural and other areas would take is due to Walmart's buisiness practices: running small buisiness into the ground, so there's no alternative for many to shopping or working there.
It's a measure of how badly they screwed up the economy of an area, and how deplorable their buisiness practices are.
People have more goods in the Walmart Era then they did in the Mom and Pop era.
I just bought some 60 watt equivalent LED lightbulbs at 5.88 each at Walmart. At a Mom and Pop shop they would be at least twice that price.
In all honesty, I'd rather pay some extra money for quality products that likely keep someone in my own country employed than some cheap product that will send money to China.
