I can relate with that. I recall a time in my life where I didn't really believe, but I still wanted to because I thought I was supposed to believe it. I don't remember the movie, but I remember a line where a woman tells a guy that he doesn't really believe in God, but rather he believes in the religion. At the time I saw it, I couldn't help but feel like that was me.
