Hawking did state in in Origin of the Universe that the debt would be repaid at the end of the universe but current thoughts are that the universe will go on forever and die of heat death so that obviously throws a spanner in that! Of course there is also the theory that gravitational energy is negative and exactly cancels out the debt, this would make sense as any virtual particles from the hawking radiation would have minuscule gravity of their own and therefore offset it's negative energy debt? Again only speculation based on papers read here and there..
Hmmm I quite don't agree with the zero energy universise hypothesis. But it is still acceptable. When we talk about black holes they are extremely dense form of matter, I.e. full of positive energy. As matter is condensed form if energy. Thus it has higher gravity, Its directly proportional. And the difference of their ratio is very very large. And the energy debt is way too large to ignore if its the case.
But like I said just think this way think before the thing you think was the first thing ever. It makes a logical loop in your thinking. Thus you must take something that is eternal.
Anyway I read some ancient quotes by an intelligent man once that said three imp things
"Science can never explain or prove God, so learn philosophy because through that you can understand him"
"Pondering over essence of God makes you an atheist"
"God can never be explained by any analogy"
So next time I gotta keep these in mind
