I happen to be a fan of the book series (as well as having most of the books on tape). The movies can mostly go tickle themselves, though.

I can't even imagine having a member of the American deep south whose written speech is similar to that of a damn New Yorker. Dialect gives familiar culture and voice to your characters... it'd be a shame to not utilize it.
