Based on what the pastor was saying, Christian "meaning" and "purpose" was quite clear:
"Stick up for what you believe in, good soldier. There might be a day when you are forced to stand up for your beliefs with your life, so do it every day in your life now. Even more importantly you want to stand before god clean as a Lamb because there is a judgement and heaven and hell await us all. Ultimate justice is possible. The time of the rapture is nigh. "
That's about as far as I got. I find it interesting that I used to soak up those words like they were going to save my life, once.
They call their sheep both soldiers and lambs, not even grasping the dichotomy. Christians are definitely not lambs, more like rabid sewer rats.
