It's a position of choice and preference.
When religious people understand that they've exercised what they call "free will" to make a decision for their own lives, then maybe they'll allow others to do the same for themselves. If there is a God, and it allows free will, and the religious believe that, then shouldn't they rest secure in their choice while allowing others who've made a differing choice to do the same?
