All god claims in human history, from polytheism to modern monotheism, are merely mental sugar pills humans make up to ignore their finite existence. I would highly recommend more people read Sagan's "Pale Blue Dot" speech which aptly points out our collective species history in the grand scope of the cosmos.
It was understandable in antiquity that people believed those things because they didn't know better, but we know better now.
Our species is not living in an era where we can afford religious and political divisions. If we do not stop this bullshit we will ruin this planet and destroy ourselves and it will not matter at that point who wins.
