Is anyone involved in a local atheist group?

There are lots of ways to get the social part without having to join a specific group. Try a bowling league. Most lanes offer open leagues that are reasonably priced and if you have any athletic skills at all, you can be the teams "secret weapon" as you'll improve more than most during the duration of the league.

In the South, it's hard to get into one of those groups and find one that isn't also flooded with church types. That's why we're trying to form little offshoots in our own group so people have at least a small band of hikers, or kayakers or gamers who won't try to preach to them.
