The problem is, that we get theists here almost daily, posing as atheists and asking what they think are 'gotcha questions', like the one in your OP.
The point is, that there is no need to have 'as an atheist' in your question.
Atheism only concerns a single position on a single claim. It is not a worldview, dogma, has no doctrine, or no leaders telling us what our position should be on any subject.

You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.
