Obviously it needs interpretation, because taken at face value it can be proven demonstrably wrong. Even devout theists don't always get what they ask for, even if they really need it. So it must be interpreted in such a way that it can still be true. He WILL give you tons of great stuff! In heaven! You just have to believe that heaven is really real. And make sure to donate money to the church, because churches need money to operate as much as the other not-holy businesses.
You would think that as badly as Yahweh wants to be worshiped, he'd make sure anyone who gave him the slightest attention would see their lives get noticably better rather quickly. Every one, even if they're just paying lip service. then as they see that saying the right things to the right god bears tangible results, the person would be more fervent and praise more genuinely and harder.
Instead we can see christians dying on the street while people praying to false gods or no gods live successful lives. Also most of the greatest christian success stories are probably people who are getting money from their congregation. Not from a divine source.
