Basically he had skin cancer and then got some experimental procedure done which only made him worse and made all his skin look bubbly and burnt and shit and thats why he wears a full morph suit thing in the comics. That kind of drove him insane but he became immortal too. Can survive decapitation and atom bombs and supernovas.
