But the child is never consulted in this matter.
There may have been great health benefits from this procedure in ages past but in the modern world?
Germany where this procedure is not routine, mooted banning it on human rights grounds, there was uproar from the religious communities and it was quietly dropped.
Lets go one further FGM Female Genital Mutilation as Practised throughout a great part of North Africa mainly by Islamic communities. Extreme unnecessary violence against little girls leading to lifelong medical problems.
Should we endeavour to ban these practises or should we not upset the rights of religious people to violate their children.
I agree with what you're saying entirely but the child not being consulted in the matter isn't an important issue. There's countless things different societies put children through without their consent.
Education, haircuts, put clothes on them, feed them.
But yeh it should be banned but it's unlikely to happen in the African communities you mentioned, infact the Muslims who are practicing genital mutilation are probably quite tame by the relative standards of the fucked in the head religious people in Africa.
Even in this day and age superstitious people in africa are paying for the severed limbs of Albino people because they think it brings them good luck, and killing people they believe to be witches.
But in places like Germany they should be definitely stopping this primitive bog brained procedure.
Education, clothing and haircuts are essential, and even things like haircuts can be reversed, hair grows back, a foreskin does not.
Let's say my parents pierced my ears after I was born (even though that doesn't happen to males often) - I don't like pierced ears on me, I think I should have the right to sue them and get a compensation
