Oh bull fucking shit. That is no different than when Libertarians throw pot and gay marriage at you to get you to ignore that they have the same "economic" "fuck you I got mine" economic policy.
YES Israel allows for gay marriage. That still does not change that if you do not share the label "Jew" you are a house guest in their social pecking order. They are basing national law on the Talmud, and Netenyahu said so. That is no different to me when even a liberal Christian says to me "you are equal" but this is a "Christian nation".
You cannot wink in law language at anyone. You can only have equal protection. It is not equal to say "I am special, and so are you, but I am most favored by my government".
"Jewish state" is still state law playing favorites to one label over another. It is not equality to treat a fellow citizen like that, you are treating minorities at that point as pets or house guests or tokens"
The only language the state should have is "freedom of religion" and " equal protection" without name dropping any group name.
And you're basing yourself on what Netanyahu says?!?? That would be tantamount to judging the US on the basis of what George W Bush has said.
You can argue that there is a group of people in Israel trying to turn the state into a religious one. On that I will agree, but it's far from being done - just as in the US, the Christian right is trying to turn the country into a Christian nation. But it's far from being done. And in both countries, there are vital opposition to that.

Yes I take him seriously, even if they do not get what they want, just like I do not want a majority mass becoming so powerful here that they add words to the Constitution that make us "bible based" laws.
Preventing theocracies are long term issues, not short term battles.
