I observed early on in life that "the more people say, the less they are."
People who make a point of repeating a virtue they say they possess very often don't actually have it or are aware they're lacking in it.
Ever notice that when a country calls itself "The People's Republic of..." that it's usually a dictatorship?
In our country, many businesses call themselves "Quality (name of product)". They usually produce low cost crap.
Guys who are the most vocally anti-gay turn out to be guys who are insecure about their sexuality and often are repressed homosexuals or bisexuals (not that heterosexuality is really a virtue but they perceive it so).
People who really are something don't have to talk about it. Everyone knows from their actions.
As an American, I have no illusion that the USA is a corporate controlled country. It has the illusion of being a democracy but money has so corrupted politics that the people have little or no say in what actually happens. Our media is controlled by major corporations so only conservative spin is allowed and an unbalanced attention is paid to loud ultra-conservative minorities.
Think that I'm over-reacting? The study has been done:

When we vote, we have to choose between wacky far-right Republicans or center-right wing Democrats. A few liberals like Elizebeth Warren manage to slip through the cracks into a seat of power but they're a hopeless minority.
Our military-industrial complex has ensured there are rich industries that feed off our military spending, who will in turn lobby congress to not cut defense spending. That's why even with talk of our deficits we won't consider the biggest elephant in the room, our Cold-War military budget. They're always looking for the next war so they can justify this budget.
I'm sorry for all the damage they've done to your part of the world in our name. It makes me wish there was a Hell that these people could face justice for all the harm they've done. I remember the band "Black Sabbath" once had a song that concluded its lyrics about the "war pigs" cowering on judgment day as Satan laughs and pulls them into Hell. I don't believe it but the idea of justice for these people that will never happen on earth is appealing.
