Those that sinned and fell away from God because of sin were no longer able to fulfill this desire so they looked for a substitute. They were attracted to humans because we are made in God's image. That implies that even when their free will was subverted, they went against god's wishes. Interesting.
I'm not so sure about the last part, though. Their attraction was a physical attraction to human women, whom they took as wives. I assume that their love for god was more akin to the sort of affection a child would have for a parent (hence the references to god as a father) or the veneration owed to a deity.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."
