Where in that sentence is there any fear, hell, evil or anything scary at all? It would be like saying "I sell tastey doughnuts, come and buy them from me". Does that sentence really inspire such fear as to reject the whole premise of God or frighten people into following him, I truly don't see it, please help me understand. Maybe if you hear that right after a few hours of hellfire and brimstone preaching I can see where it could be interpreted as such, is that what's going on?
"There ought to be a term that would designate those who actually follow the teachings of Jesus, since the word 'Christian' has been largely divorced from those teachings, and so polluted by fundamentalists that it has come to connote their polar opposite: intolerance, vindictive hatred, and bigotry." -- Philip Stater, Huffington Post
