Your point is well-taken, fr0d0 - things have changed a bit. Thing is, when we implemented the current Rule 1, it was in part to deal with boundary pushers (amongst other things). The other thing is your mode of interacting with many of us is pretty much indistinguishable from trolling. I think I get where you're coming from, though.
Point is, I guess, things change, sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse - but our goal is to promote discussion and discourage things that detract from same. How that is best accomplished is a work in progress.
There's also the factor that the staff has changed - and as we are all individuals acting by committee, how things are interpreted is going to change somewhat. I and the other more senior staff try to encourage consistency and using past precedent as a guide.
