Yeah, the tech people don't like open vehicles without roll cages! At the tracks in my area, they are quite strict about the rules, be it noise, safety equipment, whatever.
Here's a vid of my own for you. Car was stock and not really intended for straight line performance, but still runs 13.5@104 on street tires. With drag radials, the ET drops to around 13.2, which is about the best the car can do stock. Also e46 M3s have a 7800RPM red line, naturally aspirated. The thing screams.
Some professional driver got a stock e46 M3 into the high 12s, but he knows some tricks that escape me.
