That's a bit harsh, as the two words are often used interchangeably in common talk. However, you're right. Technically, there is a difference, which is why it is fallacious to ask atheists to 'prove' God's non-existence. In fact, we needn't even provide evidence against it, as the stance, 'God probably doesn't exist' is the default position. Most atheists aren't absolute about the non-existence of any form of deity, though maybe about an all-loving, all-powerful, all-knowing god, which is somewhat contradictory and logically fraught.
