The government there cannot allow heterodoxy, because it bases its power on one interpretation of the Quran ... and a couple divisions of the Revolutionary Guards.

Give them some credit. This is one Islamic government that actually says things like "academic freedom" and "secular education" as if those were not bad things.

Try finding that in Islamic governments which we think are our friends.
