What is wrong with algebra? It is a very concise language.
How about a monkey bars example. Lets say the distance between the first monkey bar to the last monkey bar is 5 meters. The distance between each monkey bar is half a meter. So you would think that there are a total of 5/0.5=10 monkey bars, but when you count them, you get 11. WTF? Well, the distance between the first and last bar tells you how many monkey bars you have to swing on to get to the last one. This ignores the monkey bar you're starting, the 11th monkey bar. So when you're counting, you include the monkey bar you were originally hanging on.
Hmm...seems like it makes more sense to count the first bar but not the last one. Not the last one because you're already done then.
