Seriously though, in the modern day the odds that one of these actually start a war against another prevalent country is incredibly low. We're all financially dependent of each other.

And? You think the US government can just say to their citizens and companies they're extracting 60 trillion dollars from the economy to pay off their debt? You do realize the national wealth is possessed by the citizens right? It's literally the second sentence of the wiki you linked.
WW2 not to mention all those other and current wars we are still trying to get in line. our economics are shitty at best were taking and borrowing to much many more than we are trying to pay back. If we the citizens payed a slightly higher taxes even the rich payed a much more hefty tax we could be good and balance things out.
