Yeah. Quick answer, he didn't. It's all a silly story. Of course if you try and explain it as real, there are heaps of problems. He made these guys knowing they would fail miserably, knowing they would be forever cursed and curse everyone else ever. He could have chosen to make guys who wouldn't do that. Still with free will, just not able to make choices that hurt themselves or curse humanity.
If you read genesis, god is described very differently to the later portrayal. There he is seen to be:
1) Walking around like a human would
2) Not knowing everything and having to ask, like a human would
3) Being surprised by things, like a human would
4) Being outwitted by a snake, like a... dumbass
5) Get very angry at being disobeyed, like a human would
In other words, it's just some kind of Man+ that they come up with as an idea for what their superior might be. You could also see him back then, I presume, as well.
Also there are subtle language difference which clearly imply there was more than one god at that "time".
The whole thing with allowing the devil to keep on ruining everything is ridiculous and impossible to explain away without admitting god either can't or won't remove satan. He'll send people born in the wrong country to hell for believing what their parents tell them, but satan can carry on truckin as far as he's concerned.
