I live in kind of a bizzarro area, in terms of politics.
The state I live in is fairly solidly blue - our governor and both senators are democrats (and have been for some time), statewide initiatives tend to favor liberal causes, and I live right next door to a overwhelmingly liberal city and county. Large cities in the region tend to vote democrat.
Yet, the county I live in voted (and historically votes) 2:1 for the republicans - and it's not likely a rural/urban divide, as the county population is mostly concentrated in the 4th largest city in the state.
